Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) of prostate cancer (PC) is burdened by a number of adverse events or effects (AEs). Immediate AEs are hot flashes and sweating, the main AE of long-term ADT include body feminisation, sexual and cognitive changes, fatigue or sleep disturbances. Other AEs are related to metabolic changes (osteoporosis, changes in lipid metabolism, insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome). Serious AEs include fractures and cardiovascular events (CVEs). Treatment with agonists of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) is associated with a higher risk of CVEs compared to the LHRH antagonist degarelix. Higher rate of CVEs during...

Marijuana is a mixture of dry parts of leaves, fruits and flowers of female plants of the genus Cannabis with declared cannabinoid content. Cannabinoids is the collective term for a group of chemical compounds that either are derived from Cannabis plant, or are synthetic analogues, or occur endogenously. Although cannabinoids act mostly at the level of currently known cannabinoid receptors, they may have cross-reactivity and also act, for example, at opioid receptors. Unfortunately, there are so far only rare clinical studies to support cannabis use in patients with chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS). The article reviews current knowledge about the...

Bladder cancer is one of the most common forms of malignancies involoving the urinary system. Multiple risk factors have been associated with its etiology. The most common are tobacco smoking and chemical exposures most often from the working environment. It is usually diagnosed in older people with an average age around 70 years. In rare cases, bladder cancer can be diagnosed in the pediatric population and in young adults, where it usually presents as a low-grade, non-invasive disease. We present a case of a 14-year-old female patient with cystine lithiasis. At the age of 8 months she had her first febrile urinary infection. Furthermore, she had no clinical signs of infection, but pyuria and significant bacteriuria were repeatedly detected. She was treated with antibiotics for these findings. In the absence of clinical difficulties parents refused further investigation of the patient. The diagnosis was made at the age of 12 by cystine crystals in the urine sediment, followed by evidence of cystinuria with nephrolithiasis. After the surgical intervention, dietary and medical treatment continues, with the patient free from pyuria and...

Renal transplantation is a method of choice for irreversible renal failure and has become a routine part of treatment through advances in surgical techniques and immunosuppressive therapy options. In order for the treatment process to be successful, patients must be properly instructed about the treatment regime at home. The aim is to improve the postoperative quality of treatment of patients, but also to support the long-term function of the transplanted kidney.
