Overactive bladder, characterized by episodes of urgency, micturition frequency, nycturia and, in majority of patients urge incontinenceaffect 20–30% of seniors 70 years and over. The treatment of choice are antimuscarininc drugs which consistently proveantimuscarinics superiority over placebo comparably so as in middle age. In old age due to the physiologic age-associated organchanges, frequent commorbidities and polypharmacotherapy antimuscarinics with higher tissue selectivity are recommended, which do not cross blood-brain barrier and those with low risk of drug interactions. Extended release formulations with lowerrates of AE are preferred....

Monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE) is a common disease in childhood. Enuresis has a significant impact on the childand its family quality of life. In some cases treatment fails. The most common causes of a failure are: low patient's adherence totreatment, misdiagnosis of other underlying pathology and incorrect use of therapy. Repeated child and its parents' education, detailed reexamination aiming to rule out all possible missed pathologic conditions and detailed history of previous therapy arethe key points of success. The treatment should follow the International Children's Continence Society recommendations. The firstline treatment is represented...

Kidney trauma could have serious impacts from the short term, even long term aspects. There are risk factors worsening acuteand late course and final results of the renal trauma. Congenital abnormalities, coexisting diseases and associated medicationbelong to the most important factors. Patients with renal insufficiency or solitary kidney need special care. Radical cystectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection is a standard of treatment for muscle-invasive bladder cancer. However, nomajor improvement of oncological results was seen in the last 30 years. The multimodal therapy was introduced to achieve bettersurvival of the patients. The muscle-invasive bladder cancer started to be considered a systemic disease as 30–50% of cT2–4N0tumors have occult metastatic disease at the time of radical cystectomy. Based on experience with palliative chemotherapy formetastatatic disease, cisplatin-based perioperative chemotherapy was introduced into treatment algorithm of muscle-invasivetumors. In these...

We present a case report of a 13-year-old boy with undiagnosed balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO), resulting in urinary retention, paradoxical ischuria, and difficult placement of indwelling urinary catheter. Total circumcision with ventral and dorsal meatotomywas completely curative, with no need for local corticosteroids. BXO is a neglected and underestimated diagnosis in boys. Despitebeing the most common cause of secondary pathological phimosis in boys, BXO is often considered to be scarring phimosis onlyand mistakenly indicated for partial circumcision by some paediatric specialists.

The incidence of lower urinary tract symptoms associated with prostatic hypertrophy has been increasing, certainlyalso because of the prolonging life expectancy in the current population. Internal comorbidity is a complication ofurological treatment, particularly in elderly patients. Selective prostatic artery embolization is a relatively new and, sofar, little widespread alternative for these patients that has shown some promising early results, while having a verygood safety profile.

Hypospadias is one of the most common birth defects of the urinary tract. This is a cleft of the urethra on the underside and affects oneof the 125–300 boys born. Genetic and hormonal influences are involved in the development. They are divided into front (glandular, coronary, subcoronary), middle (penile) and posterior (post-bodied, scrotal, perineal). Hypospadias can cause psychological trauma inother forms of mucosal and ejaculatory disorders, in addition to the possibility of sexual intercourse with the chord associated with thechord. The defect is assessed by a child urologist and treated surgically. High responsibility placed on nurses in...
