The importance of cooperation between urologist and oncologist in the treatment of castration-resistant

MUDr.Otakar Čapoun, FEBU

Urol. praxi, 2014; 15(2): 55-60

prostate cancer Treatment of prostate cancer has become more complex in recent years, mainly due to the onset of new cytotoxic agents, antiandrogens and radiopharmaceuticals. The problem of sequential therapy will probably never be resolved, because there will always be new drugs involved in the therapeutic algorithms. It is always necessary to take into account the patient’s preferences, his performance status and comorbidities, and unfortunately also the possibilities of different departments. Groups of patients entering clinical trials are highly selected and do not reflect the reality of daily practice. Multidisciplinary teams with...

Chronic orchilagia

MUDr.Hana Veličkinová, MUDr.Dušan Mrkos, MUDr.Jiří Fiedler, Ph.D.

Urol. praxi, 2014; 15(2): 62-67

Chronic orchialgie (OA) appears to be an increasing problem in urological practice. It represents a heterogeneous group of patients in whom the etiology of pain differs. The aim of the diagnostic process is to identify an unequivocal cause of the pain which may be subsequently influenced by an appropriate therapeutic treatment. When any possible causes of specific diseases including cancer are excluded we have to restrain the pain medically, or by denervation surgery. An early multidisciplinary approach proves to be beneficial when pain is hardly suggestible.

New treatment for male urinary stress incontinence

MUDr.Jaroslav Ženíšek

Urol. praxi, 2014; 15(2): 68-71

Postoperative urinary incontinence has a major impact on patient satisfaction after radical prostatectomy. Urethral sphincter incompetence is generally considered to be the most important contributing factor to post-prostatectomy incontinence (PPI). The most common treatments include periurethral bulking agents, artificial urinary sphincter, and various male slings. Bulking agents due to their general lack of efficacy, do not recommend for treating of PPI. Recent evidence has demonstrated that male slings are most efficacious in men with mild and moderate incontinence. In more severe inkontinence, especially following radiotherapy, the artificial...

Venous thrombosis in urology

doc.MUDr.Dalibor Musil, Ph.D.

Urol. praxi, 2014; 15(2): 77-79

Venous thromboembolic disease (TED) is one of the most common and potentially life-threatening complications in urology. In urology, there are major surgeries associated with a high risk of TED as well as endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures wherein, with adequate mechanical thromboprophylaxis, the risk of TED is very low. When there is a low intraoperative risk of TED, early mobilization and lower limb compression with stockings are sufficient. In patients with high and moderate risks of TED, postoperative pharmacological and/or mechanical thromboprophylaxis is required. A high risk of TED is particularly associated with operative procedures...
