Inkontinence moči patří spolu s polymorbiditou, snížením mobility a zhoršením funkcí centrálního nervového systému k nejčastějším problémům ve skupině geriatrických pacientů.

Incontinence in the Elderly - Specialties in Diagnosis and Treatment

One of the most frequent burdens of geriatric patients, as well as polymorbidity, decreased mobility and impaired function of the central nervous system, is urinary incontinence. Keeping in mind its soaring prevalence, this is not only a medical problem but also a huge social economic problem. Currently there has been a change of an approach to this dilemma. The new knowledge about the neurophysiological control of micturition at the pontine and suprapontine level holds key importance in understanding the aetiology of the incontinence disturbances in the elderly. The authors summarize the current view on the aetiopathogenesis of this disorder and the diagnosic and treatment consequences, attention being paid to their use in daily clinical practice.
