Ethiology of nocturia, as simple clinical unit, when patient is aroused one or multiple times from sleep, is multifactorial. If we can begin the correct treatment, we divide nocturia in polyuria, nocturnal polyuria, failure of storage function of urinary bladder and failure of sleep. Modification of daily drink-programme and treatment of basic disease is very important by all sorts of nocturia. Cooperation with internists, endocrinologists, neurologists and psychiatrists is necesarry. We use momently more desmopressin for treatment of nocturnal polyuria and anticholinergic and spasmolytic druha for therapy of overactive bladder.

Malignant disease of the kidneys represents about 2–3 % of all malignant diseases and their incidence in the Czech Republic is the highest worldwide. Treatment of kidney carcinoma depends on its clinical stage and the patient’s overall condition. Surgical treatment – nephrectomy – still is a basis for treating patients with a metastatic carcinoma of the kidneys. Current possibilities of systemic treatment of patients with a metastatic disease lie in applying molecular biological treatment. Tyrozinkinase inhibitors VEGF of the receptor (sorafenib, sunitinib) are used, monoclonal antibodies VEGF (bevacizumab) or mTOR kinasa...

Erectile dysfunction is a common problem of Czech men. Erectile dysfunction is one risk factor of coronary artery disease. It is necessary that we actively seek out and effectively treat men with erectile dysfunction. Diagnosis of erectile dysfunction is complicated by the absence of communication on this topic in offices of general practitioners and specialists, overestimation of psychogenic etiology, underestimation of somatic causes, especially cardiovascular risk, and underevaluation of erectile dysfunction as a problem in partner relationship. Further, there are difficulties in therapy: choice of unsuitable therapeutic method, noncompliance...

Hospitalization for urinary tract infection is required in patients with acute urinary tract infection in whom a serious course and possible complications of the disease are expected. The diagnosis is a result of clinical, morphological and laboratory findings. It is very important to identify the causative agent; however, the treatment of acute infections is initiated immediately on an empirical basis and targeted additionally based on the findings of microbiological assessment. Primarily, the aim of morphological diagnosis in urology is to rule out an obstruction. Without management of the obstruction or drainage of the pus collection, further...

androgeny, estrogeny, MEN I. Adrenocortical carcinoma Adrenocortical carcinomas are malignant tumours arising from the cells of the adrenal cortex. It is common for them to be hormonally active. They are a frequent cause of clinically evident ACTH-independent Cushing‘s syndrome. Their growth is typically very rapid. The cells of these adrenal carcinomas are usually poorly differentiated. If the tumour is hormonally active, it is manifested by overproduction of some of the hormones. Thus, hyperaldosteronism, hypercorticalism without virilization or hyperandrogenism can be encountered. Adrenocortical carcinomas are highly malignant....

Semen analysis, accurately measuring sperm concentration, motility and morphology, is the cornerstone of male fertility assesment. Both the technique of semen collection and the methods of laboratory analysis can influence the results dramatically. Semen analysis requires specific technical skills and training, as well as constant care for quality assurance. Advanced methods of semen analysis and functional tests are valuable instruments for research purposes, but can substantially contribute to the management of the infertile couple. It is important to encourage the use of standard procedures to establish reference values. This will permit...

The aim of the paper was to compare the efficiency of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy with waves generated by a piezoelectric (Wolf Piezolith 3000 lithotriptor) or electrohydraulic (Medilit M6 lithotriptor) source. The Efficiency Quotient (EQ)/Preminger and Clayman/ was evaluated in a cohort of patients. The efficiency of Wolf Piezolith 3000 was found lower compared to that of Medilit M6; its advantages included better lithotripsy tolerance, lower consumption of analgesics and, thus, superior patient comfort.

The article deals with the concept of allergy and where and when it can occur. However, it is mainly focused on allergic manifestations following the administration of contrast material and on which agents are administered in urology prior to radiological examination. It is also important to be familiar with the therapeutic procedures, prevention or subsequent measures.

Czech lawmakers adopt hundreds of new legal regulations every year. Some of them are only marginally related to the area of health services while others have a substantial effect on them. An example of the latter is the Act No. 40/2009 Coll. – the new penal code. The new penal code took effect on 1 January 2010 and replaced the previous legal regulations that had been valid for nearly 50 years. The aim of this article is to introduce health care professionals, at least in general, to what the new penal code brings to the area of health services.
