Ultrasonography using transrectally introduced probe (TRUS) allows evaluation of ultrasonic anatomy of the prostate and adjacent organs. TRUS is also helpful in measurement of prostatic volume, assesment of different diffuse or focal abnormalities and performing prostatic biopsy. Ultrasonographic evaluation plays limited role in the diagnosis of some entities (prostatitis syndrome) but it is essential in the others (bladder outlet obstruction, tumors). Knowledge of the findings in different conditions can be helpful in making differential diagnoses. Article provides overview of the current status and possible future developments of this method.

Phytotherapeutic agents present a large group of drugs that have been used for many years in a treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. These agents are composed of various healing components that have not very well known and still quite unclear mechanism of action. Among the main advantages of plant extracts belong the lack of side effects. The authors of this article present short overview on actual phytotherapy, including basic information about plants that are mainly used for extraction of these drugs.

At least eight herpes viruses are capable of infecting humans. Varicella zoster virus primarily causes chickenpox, a highly contagious disease, and the activation of a latently present virus causes a neurocutaneous herpes zoster form which may be manifested in the nerves in the area of the external genitals as well as in other locations. Ulcerative genital lesions are more commonly caused by infections with herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2. The incidence of genital herpes infections is slowly increasing. Penile squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is quite rare malignant tumor in Europe, but is the most common malignant urological tumour of men in some developing countries of Asia, Africa and South America. This review article shortly summarize diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines and also new knowledge and current trends for: etiology (human papillomavirus), diagnosis (onkomarkers, biopsy), staging (sentinel lymph node biopsy, cytology), prevention (circumcision, vaccination) and treatment (laser, kryotherapy, photodynamic therapy, lymphadenectomy, systemic therapy) of penile carcinoma.
