The median age at the time of diagnosis of prostate cancer (PC) in the Czech Republic is 68 years. The risk of PC increases with age. In older patients, the tumor is more often detected at an advanced stage. A basic geriatric assessment should be done in all patients older than 70 years. Basic screening tools used in geriatrics include the Geriatric 8 (G8) test. Based on this test, we discriminate between patients who are fit, vulnerable and frail. Radical treatment comparable to younger ones should be offered to all fit patients and those vulnerable with reversible impairment. Frail patients with irreversible impairment should receive adapted treatment...

Varicocele is clinically defined as an abnormal dilation of the veins of the pampiniform venous plexus and the testicular veins with continuous or intermittent reflux of venous blood. Varicocele occurs primarily on the left side and is among the most common causes of reduced sperm count and quality, leading to infertility and subfertility. Physical examination is the standard diagnostic method for detecting varicocele, but the diagnosis of asymptomatic and impalpable varicocele is difficult. These conditions can be detected only by using ultrasonography, which is the primary imaging method for the diagnosis of varicocele. The venous diameter is evaluated...

Urinary tract infections (IMC) rank second in the number of infections, after respiratory infections. The one-time IMC solution is fully within the competence of the general practitioner. If the infection recurs or becomes more complicated, the practitioner will contact a urologist and if he suspects that the patient's immunity is impaired, they also contact an allergist / clinical immunologist who indicates the appropriate immunological examination and ensures its interpretation and suggests or provides appropriate supportive immunomodulatory treatment.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia affects men from the age of 40 and its prevalence increases with age. Millions of men worldwide suffer from this disease, with many of them choosing an alternative treatment approach using phytotherapeutics, which are available in the form of registered preparations or food supplements. These preparations contain extracts that have been tested in clinical studies. Many of these studies have been critically evaluated by systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Recent data shows that saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) has a significant effect. Other drugs used in the treatment of BPH/LUTS include stinging nettle, lycopene,...

Sexual dysfunction (SD) means a quantitative or qualitative disorder that makes it impossible to have a satisfying sex life. Although it is sometimes possible to prove a clearly organic or psychogenic etiology, they usually have a multifactorial origin. Primary SD occurs in the patient from the beginning of sexual life, secondary SD appears after a certain longer trouble- free period. Generalized SD is not tied to the current partnership, selective is tied to a particular partnership and its quality. The prevalence of SD in the population is not exactly known; in a survey of the sexual behavior of a representative sample of the Czech population in...

The case report presents a 61-year-old male patient who was referred to our department from his catchment outpatient urological practice. On contrast CT of the abdomen, colonography and virtual colonoscopy, a bladder tumour was diagnosed as an incidental finding, which was confirmed by flexible cystoscopy. Transurethral tumour resection was performed. Histologically, it was a rare diagnosis of bladder wall leiomyoma.

While in developing countries obstetric trauma due to prolonged labour is the most common cause of genitourinary fistulas, these complications are fortunately relatively rare in developed countries. Here, a genitourinary fistula usually occurs as a result of an unrecognized iatrogenic injury to the urinary tract during surgery; typically hysterectomy. Radiotherapy to the pelvic area or pelvic inflammatory disease are some of the less common causes of fistulas. Continuous diurnal and nocturnal uncontrolled urine leakage is a very characteristic feature which, in the presence of risk factors associated with possible fistula formation, prompts the doctor...
