MUDr.Ladislava Lyerová, CSc.

Urol. praxi, 2012; 13(4): 159-162

The number of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been increasing worldwide. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential for these patients. Efforts to slow the progression of renal insufficiency and delay the need for renal replacement therapy by means of dietary measures, antihypertensive drugs, hypolipidaemic drugs, appropriate choice of medications with dose reduction based on the degree of kidney injury as well as by avoiding nephrotoxic medications or considering contrast examinations should be preferred. The patient should be referred to a nephrology service in time in order to choose an appropriate method of renal replacement...

Published data from retrospective studies prove high efficiency of the radical prostatectomy in selective cohort of patients. There was evaluated cohort of 22 patients and median follow-up was 62 months. Median PSA was 28 ng/ml. All patients underwent radical prostatectomy, 5 patients experienced of adjuvant radiotherapy and 4 of salvage radiotherapy. No patients died and no distant metastases were recorded.

Urol. praxi, 2012; 13(4): 177-178

Leiomyosarcoma of the kidney is a rare malignant tumour. A few hundred cases have been reported in the world literature. Renal sarcomas are less common but have a worse prognosis than sarcomas of other organs of the urogenital tract. Radical nephrectomy is the mainstay of the treatment. The disease tends to disseminate rapidly, and despite agressive treatment, the prognosis of the patients is poor. We present a case history of a 72-year-old patient with a primary leiomyosarcoma of the right kidney at the time when there was no metastatic dissemination. Radical nephrectomy was performed; however, the disease progressed rapidly and the patient...
