The prescription of medical devices by non-physician healthcare professionals represents one of the significant changes in the scope of nursing competencies in recent years. Over a four-year period, two major milestones can be identified that have substantially influenced the prescription of medical devices by nurses. The first was the introduction of a new competency in 2022, and the second was the implementation of the mandatory electronic prescription voucher (e-voucher) from 2026. In the interim, adjustments were also made to prescription limits for non-physician healthcare professionals. The present paper focuses on the prescription of medical devices within the competency of the stoma care nurse and links the legislative framework of this competency with practical experience.
