Diagnostic algorithms in prostate cancer - 1st part

In the first part of the article we assess diagnostic procedures in case of suspicion on prostate cancer (PC). We will mention the basic aspects of medical history and physical examination. We will evaluate the role of prostate specific antigen and its derivatives as well as the prostate health index. Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging of the prostate with a fusion prostate biopsy is currently the main course in the diagnosis of PC. Separate evaluation of prostate biopsy specimens may direct the indication for active surveillance of patients with low-risk PC.
