Sexually transmitted infections and antimicrobial resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae

The aim of this article is to provide an overview of sexually transmitted diseases and summarize the current legally binding regulations

and guidelines of the Ministry of Health regarding the mandatory reporting, follow-up and contact tracing. Another aim is to provide

information on up-to-date guidelines for gonorrhoea treatment, which may become a significant health concern due to the ability of

Neisseria gonorrhoeae to develop resistance to antimicrobial therapies. Only one regimen, dual treatment with ceftriaxone and azithromycin,

is recommended for treatment of gonorrhea worldwide.
