New treatment for male urinary stress incontinence

Postoperative urinary incontinence has a major impact on patient satisfaction after radical prostatectomy. Urethral sphincter incompetence

is generally considered to be the most important contributing factor to post-prostatectomy incontinence (PPI). The most common

treatments include periurethral bulking agents, artificial urinary sphincter, and various male slings. Bulking agents due to their general

lack of efficacy, do not recommend for treating of PPI. Recent evidence has demonstrated that male slings are most efficacious in men

with mild and moderate incontinence. In more severe inkontinence, especially following radiotherapy, the artificial urinary sphincter

typically offers predictably reliable efficacy. Recent advancements in sling technology may provide improved efficacy even in those

with more severe inkontinence.
