The monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis

MUDr.Ivo Novák, Ph.D.
Urologická klinika FN a LF UK Hradec Králové

The monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE) is the most frequent disorder after alergies in childhood. It is a very causal disorder.

The main etiology is the combination of variation of vasopressin levels by day and night, bladder volume reduction, increase in detrusor

reflexivity, malfunction of wake up and genetical preconditions. The disorder does not threaten the health of handicapped people but

makes worsening in their life quality. Mental alteration would be rather secondary. Elementary treatment options are: the alarms, the

medical drugs or alternative treatment. Combination for example of the alarms and the medical drugs has superior results. The tendency

to recurrence after stopping of treatment is high. Most of children patiens (99 %) are treated till 15–18 years spontaneously. Remaining

patients can have some problems with enuresis within their whole life.
