Leiomyosarcoma of the kidney is a rare malignant tumour. A few hundred cases have been reported in the world literature. Renal sarcomas
are less common but have a worse prognosis than sarcomas of other organs of the urogenital tract. Radical nephrectomy is the
mainstay of the treatment. The disease tends to disseminate rapidly, and despite agressive treatment, the prognosis of the patients is
poor. We present a case history of a 72-year-old patient with a primary leiomyosarcoma of the right kidney at the time when there was
no metastatic dissemination. Radical nephrectomy was performed; however, the disease progressed rapidly and the patient died 14
months after the diagnosis had been determined and the treatment started.
