Backgrounds: Renal cell cancer is one of the 10 most common cancers in our country and abroad. The main risk factors for RCC include
smoking, obesity, hypertension and family disposition. One other factor is exposure to ionizing radiation.
Materials and methods: Study consisted of 635 persons, of which 300 cases and 335 controls. From both cases and controls was obtained
level of exposure to ionizing radiation, focusing on the number of X-ray examinations in related to work classification, radiation
for medical reasons and in women, whether and how often undergo they mammography.
Results: When evaluating the number of X-ray examination related to employment status was found significant associations with
kidney cancer. The irradiation for medical reason suggested only trend at association of irradiation and increased risk of kidney cancer,
a statistically insignificant result was probably due to small sample size. Originally outlined inverse association of mammography and
kidney cancer was not confirmed after the division into groups according to the number performed examinations.
Conclusions: Ionizing radiation is a weak risk factor for kidney cancer. For a more detailed analysis of the effects of ionizing radiation
would be more appropriate type of prospective study.
