Urinary tract infections in children are among the most frequent diseases, second only to respiratory infections. In infancy, these infections
are more common in boys while at school age girls are more commonly affected. Any urinary tract disease can mean possible
complications; therefore, early diagnosis and prompt treatment are essential. Urinary tract infections may be an independent disease;
however, they often accompany other conditions. They may have a mild course and subside without sequelae but also may result in
damage to renal tissue (parenchyma) and severe functional impairment and renal failure.
