Female stress urinary incontinence is one of the most frequent problems in everyday urogynecological practice. The overview has 2 parts. The authors present some current facts about epidemiology, aetiology, pathophysiology and risk factors in part 1. In part 2. the authors present current trends in diagnosis, conservative and surgical treatment. Up to date medical options such as duloxetine, minimally invasive procedures (slings, TVT – Tension-free Vaginal Tape, TOT – Transobturator Tape, urethral bulking agents – injectables -bioimplants – teflon, collagen, silicone micro-implants, dextran copolymer etc. – Macroplastique®, Durasphere®, Deflux®, Uryx®, Coaptite®, Urodex®) and also other efficient strategies and treatment modalities (pelvic floor muscle training, oestrogens, electrostimulation, intravaginal devices, intraurethral plugs, pads, diapers and hygiene products, colposuspension, arteficial sphincter etc.) are also mentioned and discussed.
