Chlamydiae are gram negative intracellular bacteria, which carry some characters ranging them among unusual microbes – an intracellular way of life, specific life cycle and wall composition (muramic acid), inability of ATP synthesis (one can encounter a term „energetic parasite“). According to World Health Organisation, out of more than 500 millions of sexually transmitted diseases annually nearly 1/5 (approx. 90 millions) is caused by Chlamydiae. Moreover these data are not accurate, because these infections (except for infections of L1, L2, L3 and La2 serotypes of Chlamydia trachomatis, causing lymphogranuloma venerum) are not a subject of mandatory reports. It is apparent from clinical practice and literature, that the incidence of Chlamydiae, or their detection respectively, steeply rises and Chlamydiae are currently significant medical and economic problems.
