Incidence a prevalence chronické prostatitidy (syndromu chronické pánevní bolesti) roste do epidemických rozměrů. Byl to i nárůst nákladů na diagnostiku a léčbu tohoto onemocnění, který vyvolal nové výzkumy. Ty zpochybnily ve většině případů infekční původ syndromu.

Stará a dlouho opomíjená metoda - masáž prostaty - je stále účinná. Mění se pohled na mechanizmus účinku masáže prostaty.
