Bolest je častým příznakem akutních i chronických onemocnění, a je nutné ji léčit společně s podáváním kauzálních léků. Největší pozornost si zaslouží chronická bolest při dlouhodobém nebo pokračujícím tkáňovém poškození.

Autoři uvádějí patofyziologii bolesti a její diagnostiku, zásady léčby chronické bolesti, charakteristiku jednotlivých skupin analgetik, způsob podávání a nežádoucí účinky. Závěrem seznamují s typy pracovišť léčby bolesti.

Therapy of chronic pain

Pain is a common symptom of many acute and chronic diseases and requires treatment in combination with causal therapy. The biggest problem is chronic pain caused by long-term tissue damage.

This paper discusses the pathophysiology of pain, its diagnostics and the principles of treatment of chronic pain. Also described are different groups of analgesics, their application and adverse effects. Finally, the different types of institutions which treat pain are described.
