V minulé části příspěvku jsme se zabývali diagnostickými metodami BPH, které jsou ve švédských poměrech považovány za standardní. S jejich pomocí lze objektivně dokumentovat symptomy a kvantifikovat je, aby bylo možné pro každý jednotlivý případ vybrat nejvhodnější z dnes nabízených způsobů léčby, která se zaměřuje buď na funkční příznaky (např. alfablokátory) nebo přímo na redukci objemu zvětšené žlázy (transuretrální resekce, použití laseru nebo mikrovlnné energie, inhibitory 5-alfa reduktázy ap.).
