Roztroušená skleróza mozkomíšní (RS) je chronické zánětlivé demyelinizující onemocnění nervové soustavy vznikající na podkladě autoimunitního procesu, zaměřeného proti bílé hmotě mozku a míchy. Je nejčastější neurologickou příčinou invalidity mladších věkových skupin v naší zeměpisné šířce. Klinická symptomatologie je dána projevy porušené funkce myelinizovaných drah centrální nervový systém (CNS). Jedná se o poruchy zraku, hybnosti, citlivosti, koordinace pohybu, stability, poruchy funkce svěračů, v pozdějších stadiích i o poruchy v oblasti duševní výkonnosti. Právě dysfunkce dolních močových cest, či komplikace z ní plynoucí, a erektilní dyfunkce u mužů, přivádí stále více pacientů s RS do ordinace urologa.
