Cílem léčby močových kamenů je odstranění veškeré masy kamene při maximálním šetření funkční tkáně ledviny. Objevem mimotělní fokusované rázové vlny (LERV) a rozvojem endoskopických operačních metod (PEK, URS) se léčba konkrementů posouvá do oblasti miniinvazivní chirurgie.

V průběhu 20 let (l980 - l999) bylo vyhodnoceno využití různých operačních metod s ohledem na zavádění moderních postupů.

Ještě na počátku 80. let představovaly otevřené operace jediný způsob léčby. Využitím moderních miniinvazivních metod se podíl otevřených operací postupně snížil na současných 3,9% ze všech výkonů pro kameny.

Současný stav léčby je patrný ze statistiky 477 provedených výkonů v roce l999.
