Tuberkulóza vždy představovala závažný medicínský problém a dle WHO je stále nejzávažnější infekcí, kterou je postižena až třetina světové populace (1). Ročně na tuberkulózu zemřou asi 3 miliony lidí. Problémem je i nárůst multirezistentní tuberkulózy - MDR-TB (Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis) (2). Všechna tato závažná fakta se týkají především rozvojových zemí. Několik případů tuberkulózy v naší praxi ukazuje, že také v České republice nesmíme podceňovat tuto infekci, protože zůstává i dnes závažným onemocněním.
