Prostatic syndrome - bacterial inflamation

MUDr. Kamil Belej FEBU
Urologické oddělení Ústřední vojenská nemocnice, Praha

A causative pathogen in patient with prostatitis is detected by routine methods in less than 10 % of cases. This is classified as bacterial prostatitis and for these patients an antimicrobial therapy is performed on a rational basis. According to the duration of symptoms bacterial prostatitis can be described as either acute or chronic. Important investigations in the evaluation of the patient with chronic prostatitis are quantitative bacteriological cultures and microscopy of the urine, expressed prostatic secretion or semen. Antiobiotics and other drugs are used according to clinical status of patient, course of the disease and result of microscopic and microbiological evluation. This article is the review of ethiology, diagnosis and treatment of documented bacterial infections of the prostate.
